Huddersfield Hawks

The Huddersfield Hawks were formed in July 2006 by ex Sheffield Hallam Warriors Safety Paul Blair who set up the club and recruited his former Head Coach John Edley.

The club completed its associate year in 2007 with games against Leicester, Sunderland and Durham and gained membership into the newly formed BUAFL league for the 2007/2008 season.

Placed in a difficult division with four teams that had made the play offs the previous year the Hawks suffered from a lack of experience on both sides of the ball which lead to an 0-8 season. However following the appointment of new coaching staffs and the introduction of the new BUAFL league structure as well as improvements in ability and experience on the field, the Hawks are confident of becoming a competitive team in the competitive Northern Conference.

The University of Huddersfield was founded in 1825 as a Science and Mechanical institute.

Today it is attended by more than 22,000 students from 85 countries around the world. It has a turnover of £100 million and contributes £150 million to the local economy as well as sponsoring the Huddersfield Giants Rugby League side.

As well as this in 2007 it was ranked first of all Yorkshire Universities for quality of teaching staff and lectures and its centre for Precise Technologies is ranked first in the UK and one of the top three in Europe.

Famous Alumni include leading British crime novelist Peter Turnbull and ‘Allo ‘Allo actor Gordon Kaye. Also in 2003 Actor Patrick Stewart, (Star Trek, X-men), originally from nearby Mirfield, was appointed as University Chancellor and opened the new Student Centre in November 2007.
