Reading Knights
The Reading Knights were a founding member of the BCAFL’s Southern Conference and are one of the oldest collegiate teams in the UK.
Before the 2007/08 season, they had suffered through twenty straight losing seasons and had never made it to the playoffs (although they did play in the Southern Plate competition in 1999-2000). However, the BUAFL era has seen the Knights take big strides culminating in their play-off qualification in 2009 where they narrowly lost to the UWE Bullets.
Some of the Knights proudest moments of the past include:
- The outstanding play of ‘old-boy’Jihad Jaafar who represented the team for the Great Britain Bulldogs in both 1993 & 1994
- Their previous best record teams of 99/00 & 02/03
- Sending current Head Coach Drew Cameron to the GB Bulldogs team of 2004
- Kenny Cooling and Chris Beech representing the Southern All-stars in 2005, and Eddy Loughton being chosen to represent Team South in the inaugural BUAFL MVP game.
- Reading was also the home of the first Team South training camp in the BUAFL era.
- Reading made the play-offs in 2009, narrowly losing to the UWE Bullets
