Leeds Carnegie
The Carnegie American Football Programme is committed to be a leader on and off the field in intercollegiate competition, summed up by the belief in the relentless pursuit of excellence.
Along with over 40 other university teams, the Programme competes in the British Universities American Football League. Cross city rivals, Leeds University, have a long established team and the sports first Varsity game in Leeds is planned for 2010.
There are 3 practice sessions on Tuesday evening, Wednesday afternoon and Sunday afternoon (fixtures are also held on Sunday afternoons). The Sessions cover a Weights Regime, Chalkboard/Film Review, Contact Work and Team/Technique Work. Included in pre-season training is a residential Boot Camp where the squad work hard on their fundamentals.
As well as a full contact team, the Programme is looking to form an intramural Flag competition and to deliver coaching to after-school groups in the local community.
Coach Wake heads a talented, experienced and fully qualified staff aiming to develop student-athletes to reach their full potential. Coaches Cluskey (Ireland) & Wake (Great Britain at Senior & University levels) bring their experience of national programmes to the Carnegie set up. Squad members are expected to work hard on the field and enjoy themselves off it.
Social dates include; Madden Tournaments, Rookie Night, Shirt Presentation Night, Thanksgiving, Christmas Party and the best Superbowl Party in Leeds.
It''''s not a contact sport, it''''s a collision sport. Take the opportunity, while at university, to play this exciting sport. No experience is needed, just the ability to take and give hits.
