Canterbury Chargers
The Canterbury Christ Church Chargers were formed in 2008 in response to changes within the league.
On completing two qualification games in early 2009 against the East Kent Mavericks and the local rivals the Kent Falcons the Chargers were accepted into the league. Despite losing both games the Chargers turned some heads for their solid defence.
The head coach Glenn Lindley has promoted good connections with the aforementioned local adult team the East Kent Mavericks, with many of the Chargers training with them during the off season.
The Chargers first season in the league was been a rough one for the fledgling team, with their small numbers often working against them when playing more established teams such as the Hertfordshire Hurricanes. However the Chargers first season also brought them their first win against league newcomers the Imperial Immortals.
Overall the first few years of Chargers football have been based on establishing links with local schools in the form of youth coaching, raising awareness within the university and creating that team spirit that is integral to playing the game well. In the future with decent recruiting and a bit of luck the Chargers should become a force to be reckoned with.
